Coextinction Film Series

I have been very fortunate to be a core supporter of this documentary film series in the making. I have been engaged in the issues, joined the community and even spent some time in the field during the first two weeks of filming. The documentary series focuses in on our beloved orcas, the Southern Resident Killer Whales, but goes deeper into the complexities of extinction and challenges viewers to understand how everything is interconnected. -Jenna Thornber

About the Series:

An inspiring and moving story that challenges us to understand and protect our interconnected ecosystems, before they disappear. Fall in love with the Southern Resident Killer Whales and the Salish Sea. Only 74 Southern Resident Killer Whales are left on earth, this film dives into all the issues around this extinction crisis.

The Issues:

- 74 Southern Resident Killer Whales are left on earth

- 16 million salmon of all species used to pass through the Columbia River every year, in 2016 only 2 million did.

- 11 of out of 15 south coast chinook salmon are highly depleted and require immediate conservation action

-the Salish Sea orcas are the 1 of the 8 most endangered marine populations in America.

Interview with Co-Director Elena Jeanbelow is a podcast interview with one of the Co-Directors of the film Elena Jean. Interviewed by me, Jenna Thornber.
